Spring Breakup and Snow in Valdez

Image
It is finally getting warmer in the Anchorage area and most of the snow is now melted. The transition from melting snow and ice to green vegetation is called "breakup". It lasts about 4 weeks and most Alaskans look forward to when it is over.  I do like seeing the rivers beginning to run and break through the snow. It looks like everything is beginning to come to life. Hopefully next week trees should be budding and we will see green grass too. Just in time for Kate and Jed to arrive. Kate gets here on April 30 and hopefully Jed will arrive then too. He is driving a trailer from Indiana to Anchorage. Kate said he was able to enter Canada today and has until April 30 to be out of Canada. I hope it will be an enjoyable drive even though it’s a very long drive.       We traveled to Valdez this past week to take some furnishings to the missionaries there. Valdez is on the east side of Prince William Sound, about 320 miles from Anchorage (5 hr drive). It is the terminus for

I hope you don't mind my posting this picture of us. I went to get my haircut and told the stylist that I had let my hair grow out a little because my husband liked my hair a little longer. I told her it was easy to manage shorter but I would try it longer, so only cut off 1/2". She started to cut but then said "you know what, you should wear your hair shorter if you like it." She then cut about 2 inches off. I think it was her stand for women's rights. I don't think it has been this short since LeAnn cut it for her licensing exam. She was a bold stylist. It is easier to style but next time I'll tell her I like it long. She was fun to talk to so I can live with it.       I feel like we are getting used to serving as missionaries now but there are still new things to learn every day. We have had several missionaries leaving for reassignment the past few weeks. Or at least getting ready. Two elders going home to the Philippines were supposed to leave

Loyalty, Integrity, Courage

Elder Robinson and I have been looking for a new apartment and saw this Alaska State Trooper car parked next to the apartment we were looking at. I liked seeing the qualities Loyalty, Integrity and Courage on the car, visible for everyone to see. It made me think of what qualities would I want to display and how do I connect my actions with those values. I know loyalty and faith are similar. That caused me to think more about President Nelson's talk about faith and how to increase faith (Study, Believe, Act, Ordinances and Ask). Even with a seed of faith it can grow to bless our lives if we work at it. I was reminded of a necklace my dad brought home from one of his business trips that had a tiny mustard seed in it and a little medallion with the scripture "If you have the faith of a mustard seed, you can move mountains". I got it when I was about 8 and probably didn't appreciate it as much as I do now. My dad gave me the necklace about faith but more importantl
