A Visit to the Museum

Image
It has been so cold the past 2 weeks. The temperature has been about 3 degrees for a high and 8 or 9 below zero for the low. It hasn't been this cold in Anchorage since January 2020. I have loved the bright blue sky with the hoar frost and this ice prism we saw as we drove to work. We called it a "snow pillar" because it was snow, not rain ,and straight, not a bow. But ice prism (the weatherperson's word) is a good description too. It was interesting to see how far the snow blower shoots the snow off the sidewalk. This was a smaller plume of snow compared to others we have seen.      Since it is so cold we wanted to find something to do indoors for our P-day on Saturday. We went to the Anchorage Museum. They had an art exhibition on one floor. One piece reminded me of Scott. It had water dripping on drums to represent how climate change would affect what we hear (according to the description of the piece). I didn't really understand it.       Another display

I Love Winter

Image
I suppose since I said, "I love fall" three weeks ago, now that winter is here I should say, "I love winter". I do love the four seasons, including winter. It just came too soon. We had record-breaking snowfall of 10 inches on Wednesday into Thursday. Other areas of Anchorage had about 20 inches. That much snow this early in the season was a big surprise.       The new missionaries arrived on Wednesday and had an immediate taste of Alaska winter. This week the temperature will be highs of around 5 degrees and lows around -9. I don't remember it being this cold last winter. I love my warm clothes! The missionaries are advised to wait until they get here to buy winter clothes because they are so bulky to try to pack and bring with them.  Sister King has a lot of warm clothes on hand that missionaries have left here when they returned home. Hopefully they will find some good things to wear until they get everything they need for winter. I always love seeing

A trip to Delta Junction

Image
Elder Robinson and Elder Tracy drove to Delta Junction this past week to help missionaries move in to a new apartment. It is about 420 miles from Anchorage and took about 7 hours to get there. It was mostly snow-packed roads and not much traffic.  The missionaries were really happy to see them. They moved out of the birdhouse apartment I showed last week into a larger apartment with a washer and dryer. Elder Robinson also brought them some extra furnishings. They liked the beach shower curtain.       Delta Junction is a town of about 1000 people. It is the end of the Alcan highway and the junction of going south towards Valdez and Anchorage or north to Fairbanks. The Alaska Pipeline runs alongside a lot of the road.  There was a nice small hotel they stayed at and they were able to to take the missionaries out for dinner. This is a picture of the "garbage" omelette Elder Robinson had for breakfast. It had all kinds of meat and vegetables in it. I think they added whateve
