Robinson Alaska Mission

       Sorry I missed getting the blog sent yesterday. With it being Mother's Day, I took the day off to enjoy some family time. I never expected we would be able to celebrate Mother's Day with Kate while on our mission. She prepared dinner and taught us to make pizza starting with tossing the dough! She also made delicious Nutella gelato. So we stayed late visiting and I didn't get home to write the blog.        Thank you for flowers, candy, good food and your thoughtfulness. I especially enjoyed visiting on the phone with everyone. I thought it was interesting to be on the missionary side of Mother's Day phone calls.           I wanted to share a little bit about Jed's adventurous drive to Alaska from Indiana. Kate and Jed will be living in Anchorage for about 12 weeks while he works a temporary job as a nurse anesthetist in Alaska. Kate and the kids flew to Anchorage but Jed drove from Indiana pulling a travel trailer. He had to take a Covid test at the border and wait for results before being allowed into Canada (plus meeting residency and work requirements). Once in Canada he had to take another self-administered Covid test after 24 hrs and drop it at a designated collection site. When he tried to call the helpline for instructions about the test he was #300 in line until the call dropped. He was then #1800 in line when he called back. He missed the deadline but since he was a nurse someone he talked to the next day allowed him to take the test without using the helpline. But he had to drop it off in Edmonton, which was 3 hrs the opposite direction. That added about ...

       It is finally getting warmer in the Anchorage area and most of the snow is now melted. The transition from melting snow and ice to green vegetation is called "breakup". It lasts about 4 weeks and most Alaskans look forward to when it is over.  I do like seeing the rivers beginning to run and break through the snow. It looks like everything is beginning to come to life. Hopefully next week trees should be budding and we will see green grass too. Just in time for Kate and Jed to arrive. Kate gets here on April 30 and hopefully Jed will arrive then too. He is driving a trailer from Indiana to Anchorage. Kate said he was able to enter Canada today and has until April 30 to be out of Canada. I hope it will be an enjoyable drive even though it’s a very long drive.       We traveled to Valdez this past week to take some furnishings to the missionaries there.
